About Ifö Center Arthall
Ifö Center Arthall is located in the former Clay Storage of Iföverken Industrial Area, a site in southern Sweden full of ceramic history. The building is rough concrete with tall ceilings. Several exhibitions are open at the same time in different halls. The arthall is run by a non-profit/artist collective who bought part of the former insulator factory through a crowd funding campaign in 2019. The center offers studio space, exhibitions, residencies, workshops, guided tours and more. A core part of our operation is to recycle the old factory buildings and the leftovers from the industry. Artwork is displayed with the historic, industrial environment as a backdrop.
Opening hours of Ifö Center Arthall 2025
Mo-Fri 10-18 & Sa 13-17, from May 3 to Oct 28
The Room
Location: The Room is inside Ifö Center Arthall (former Clay Storage)
Size: 8,60 m x 7,75 m and a very high up ceiling (out of reach)
Floor: concrete
Walls: two concrete wall and two walls built from wood/board
Lighting: light track with movable spots on all walls, plus loose spots
Ceiling: slanted concrete ceiling c. 10-11 m up
Heights of concrete walls: to the ceiling, but with a ledge at c. 4 m up.
Heights of wooden walls: c. 2,5 m and 3 m
Historic factory remains: a left behind industrial metal construction remains in The Room. It can not be moved and consists of four standing metal legs in a square formation, 2,25 m and 1,35 m apart. The legs are very tall and connected to each other high up by metal cross beams. Legs and beams are made from hollow metal, ca 27 x 27 cm around.
Additional information on hanging/possibilities
In this project it is unlikely that we can reach the ceiling to hang from it. Wooden walls can be painted or screwed into. Concrete walls have hanging rails and may not be screwed into or painted on. The industrial metal construction can carry heavy weight. There is a wooden platform that can be placed between the four legs, high up, low down or somewhere in the middle. The legs/beams can be covered/wrapped, surround something, suspend something, house a projection, emit light and so on. The top of the construction, the high up platform and artwork displayed here can be seen from the entrance and neighboring hall over the wooden walls.
Please see photos for visuals and drawings for measurements.
Note: meet and use the Room on your own terms. Don’t make everything about the industrial remains unless you feel like it. It’s a possibility to display your work or interact with - not a requirement. It just happens to be there.
